The Lost Child – Mulk Raj Anand Mulk Raj Anand wrote The Lost Child . It is a short story about a small boy and his parents. The story is set in a village fair during spring. The child goes to the fair with his mother and father. On the way, he sees toys, sweets, flowers, and balloons and wants them, but his parents do not buy them. At the fair, he gets attracted to many things and slowly gets separated from his parents. Soon he realizes he is lost and starts crying. A kind man tries to help him by offering sweets and toys, but the child refuses everything. He only wants his parents.  The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost is about a man who is walking in a forest and sees two roads. He cannot walk on both roads, so he must choose one. He looks at both and picks one path. He knows he may never come back to try the other road. The roads show different choices in life. The poem teaches that our decisions are important and they change our future. The Diary of Anne Frank   The Diary of a Young Girl is written by Anne Frank. It is a true story of a Jewish girl in World War II. Anne lived in Amsterdam with her father Otto Frank, mother Edith Frank, and sister Margot Frank.  To stay safe from Nazis, they hid in a secret place called the Annex. They lived with the Van Daan family and Mr. Dussel. Life was very hard, and they were always afraid. Anne wrote her feelings in her diary.  In 1944, they were caught and sent to concentration camps. The Black Aeroplane (Fredrick Forsyth) “The Black Aeroplane” is a story about a pilot who is flying his old Dakota airplane DS 088 at night from Paris to London. He is happy because he wants to reach home and have a good breakfast with his family. The sky is clear at first, but soon he sees big dark storm clouds in front of him. He does not want to go back, so he decides to fly into the storm. Inside the storm, everything becomes dark and dangerous. The plane starts shaking, and the pilot cannot see anything. His compass stops working, and his fuel is almost finished. He becomes very afraid and thinks he will die. Suddenly, he sees another black aeroplane flying near him. The pilot of that plane signals him to follow. He follows the strange plane through the storm. After some time, he comes out of the clouds and safely lands at the airport. His First Flight  (Liam O Flahert) “First Flight” is a story about a young seagull who is afraid to fly. He lives on a high cliff with his parents, brothers, and sister. His brothers and sister learn to fly very quickly, but he is too scared. He thinks that his wings are too weak and he will fall into the sea. So, he stays alone on the ledge and does not try. His parents try to encourage him many times, but he refuses to fly. At last, they leave him alone and do not give him any food. The young seagull becomes very hungry and weak. He cries loudly and looks at his family flying happily in the sky. After some time, his mother comes with a piece of fish in her beak. She flies near him but does not give him the fish. Nelson Mandela: A Long Walk To Freedom                                      (Nelson Mandela) This chapter is an extract from the autobiography of Nelson Mandela.  It describes the historic day of May 10, 1994.  On this day, Mandela became the first black President of South Africa.  The inauguration ceremony took place in Pretoria.  Leaders from all over the world gathered to show their respect.  South Africa was finally free from the rule of white people.  This system of racial discrimination was called 'Apartheid'.  Under Apartheid, black people were treated very badly and had no rights.  Mandela describes the day as a "victory for justice and peace."  He remembers the many patriots who sacrificed their lives for freedom.  He says that his freedom was built on their great suffering.  Mandela explains that "courage" is not t...

A Letter to God by G.L. Fuents     A Letter to God is a story of extreme faith in God. Lencho was a farmer. His house was the only one in the entire valley. It was on the top of a hill. His fields needed a good harvest. He was looking towards the sky. He was hoping for rain. During the meal, big drops of rain began to fall. Drops of rain were like coins.   Dust of Snow ‘Dust of Snow’ is a beautiful short poem written by Robert Frost. This poem tells us the importance of simple moment. It contains a large significance. The poet has mentioned crow and hemlock tree in this poem. The poet was in depressed and sorrowful mood. A crow was sitting on a hemlock tree which is a poisonous tree. The crow shook the tree and dust of snow falls on the poet. It changed the poet's mood and he saved part of his day. Summary: Dust of Snow  The poem is set on a cold, snowy day. The poet, Robert Frost, is in a very sad, hopeless, and depressed mood. He mentions a Crow and a Hemlock tree . In literature, both are usually seen as negative symbols (a crow is often associated with bad luck, and a hemlock tree is poisonous).  While the poet is standing under the tree, a crow shakes the branch. In the photograph her mother had gone for a sea holiday with two her cousins Betty and Dolly for paddling. Their uncle took a photograph of them. Both the cousins were holding the hands of her mother who was the eldest among the girls. This was before the poetess was born. Her mother would look at the photograph after about twenty to thirty years and laugh nostalagically. Now for the poetess, her mother’s laughter and her sea holiday is a thing of the past. Because her mother died about 12 years ago. The silence of the photograph silences the poetess.
