 “A Baker from Goa”  The chapter “A Baker from Goa” is written by Lucio Rodrigues. It tells us about the old tradition of baking bread in Goa. In the past, bakers were very important in Goan society. They were called pader . Every day, the baker came to the houses early in the morning with fresh bread. He carried a basket on his head. The sound of his bamboo stick and his call made people know that the baker had come. Children were very happy to see him. They loved to eat bread-bangles and sweet bread. Bread was an important part of life in Goa. It was used in daily meals, festivals, and marriages. No special occasion was complete without bread. Even poor people used bread in their meals.
